How many times have you heard from your nonprofit management that you must find new major gift donors? We must bring in new donors!! Go find them!!

Well let me give you a secret.

Before you spend time looking for new donors, look at your current donors first. This is where you should start.

Whether large or small, organizations are doing themselves a disservice if they ignore those who have given to their organization in the past.

The reason many current donors are ignored is because they are viewed as "small" donors. They're viewed as "just not the type to make a major gift."

Really?

Have you gone to visit all the donors who give you $500-$1,000 year after year after year?

Have you even called to thank them? Gotten to know them? Find out why they're so connected to your organization?

There's a reason they're giving consistently. They have a strong affinity for the mission of your organization.

These donors may not even know that they could make a major gift.

They many not even know what a major gift is and that they could make a greater impact.

Until someone seeks them out to thank and visit them.

That someone is you.

You know they have affinity because they've been giving consistently.

Now go see them and assess their capacity to make a larger gift.
